Psychotherapy

The one thing you can’t take away from me is the way I choose to respond to what you do to me. The last of one’s freedom Is to choose one’s attitude in any given circumstance

The elephant in the room

My therapeutic style and how I perceive my role to be in the therapeutic relationship is to facilitate the client’s growth in ways which respect the person’s values, personal resources and capacity for self-determination, leading to life-long and sustained healthy interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships.

Addiction counseling is a facilitative process which helps individuals address issues of avoidance, facing reality, fears and anxiety and living free of compulsive and self-defeating behaviours. Developing and improving individuals coping skills, navigating high risk situations, dealing with triggers and cravings and to enhance their motivation to embrace recovery are some of the areas that I work on with the client.

Psychotherapy aims to assist in the following ways:

  • To strengthen self worth
  • To find positive ways to manage stressful events and emotions
  • To learn how to respond to substance and behavioural triggers
  • To develop practical skills to deal with cravings
  • To assist the individual with rebuilding trusting relationships
  • To become responsible and compliant with other treatment goals
  • Renewal of confidence hope and the belief that change is possible.
  • Different perspectives and insights about self, relationships and challenges.
  • The heightened awareness and insight provides various options and opportunities to ‘think, feel and BE’ different.
